Lycoming Engines Shows Williamsport Student Future of Aviation

Career Day at Lycoming Engines Includes Peek at iE2

student-visit

Williamsport, PA - May 18, 2009 - Williamsport Area High School student Akeem Wright, front, learns about the iE2 integrated electronic engine from Lycoming Engines design engineer Forrest Lysinger. Wright, who is interested in becoming an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic following graduation from high school, shadowed Lysinger on Thursday, May 14, to learn more about Lycoming Engines, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, and the field he has chosen for his career. The iE2 is some of the newest technology to come out of Lycoming's Advanced Technology Center. Piston airplane engines throughout history have required that pilots manage fuel mixture manually in order to achieve maximum performance at various altitudes and in various conditions. The iE2, which is expected to reach production in 2010, will relieve pilots of that responsibility. The iE2 controls the engine electronically, making flying the plane less demanding by reducing pilot work load while also continually and automatically optimizing engine performance. While learning about airframe and powerplants, Wright got a peek into the future of piston engine flight at Lycoming.
